PIONIRS seminar at Shanghai Tech

PIONIRS is proud to announce that Dr. Michele Lacerenza, CTO and co-founder of the company, will deliver an invited seminar at ShanghaiTech University on October 16, 2025.
The talk, titled “Tissue Oximetry in Clinical Research: Quantitative Microvascular Biomarkers in Brain & Muscle”, will be hosted by Prof. Wuwei Ren from the School of Information Science and Technology (SIST).
More details are available on the ShanghaiTech University website.

If you are interested in attending the seminar and learning more about PIONIRS’ technology, please contact us — we’ll be happy to provide further details.

Seminar Overview

In this seminar, Dr. Lacerenza will discuss the latest advances in Time-Domain Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (TD-NIRS) for non-invasive measurement of tissue oxygenation in the brain and muscle.

The presentation will cover:

  1. Recent clinical and laboratory applications of TD-NIRS technology.
  2. Case studies and protocols, including:
    • Cerebral hemodynamic monitoring and microvascular reactivity in peripheral muscles;
    • Characterization of microvascular dysfunction and biomarker evolution over time;
    • Rejection of superficial signal components to improve cerebral measurements;
    • Applications in exercise physiology, focusing on oxygenation and recovery dynamics.
  3. Practical and methodological aspects such as ease of use, quality control, and standardization in multicentric trials.

The seminar aims to foster collaboration between research groups in Shanghai and Europe, encouraging joint innovation in biomedical optics and clinical diagnostics.
