Bringing absolute muscle oximetry into motion

PIONIRS introduces the first fully wearable and wireless time-domain NIRS device for exercise monitoring and muscle oxygenation studies. It is worn directly over the muscle and streams data to the NX-Go! app while the subject moves.

Thanks to photon’s time of flight measuremet, PIONIRS NX separates absorption from scattering information, returning absolute optical properties and quantitative hemoglobin + myoglobine concentrations. Measurements can be compared across sessions, subjects and operators. No baseline normalisation, no calibration are needed.

  • O2Hb Oxygenated (hemo+myo)globin, µM
  • HHb Deoxygenated (hemo+myo)globin, µM
  • tHb Total (hemo+myo)globin, µM
  • StO2 Muscle Tissue oxygen saturation, %

Full access to raw data

Absolute optical properties, hemodynamic values and raw photon distribution of time of flight can be downloaded and processed externally.

Longitudinal and inter-subject studies

Absolute concentrations make today’s session comparable with last month’s, and one athlete comparable with another (no skin-pigmentation bias).

Insight into tissue structure

Reduced scattering is measured alongside absorption and differential pathlenght factor (DPF), adding information on the tissue itself, not only on its hemodynamics.

Motion recorded with the signal

A 3-axis accelerometer logs movement on the same time base, so cadence and muscle position can be compared against the hemodynamic traces.

Early access program:

We are selecting a small group of research teams to work with NX before it is generally available. Send us the application you have in mind. If it fits, we ship you a unit and we follow the study with you.

Places are limited and assigned on the scientific interest of the proposal.

  1. 1 You write to us A short description of the study you want to run with the wearable TD-NIRS device.
  2. 2 We review it together A call with our team to check feasibility, measurement sites and timing.
  3. 3 You measure You receive a unit ahead of the launch, with direct support from the people who built it.
